How it works
- 1
Pick your starting point
Use either the first day of your last menstrual period (most common) or your known estimated due date.
- 2
Naegele's rule does the math
Pregnancy lasts 280 days from the LMP for a 28-day cycle. Cycle length adjustments apply if your cycle is shorter or longer.
- 3
See current week + trimester + milestones
Track 11 major pregnancy milestones from week 4 (positive test) through week 40 (estimated due date).
How far along am I? Understanding pregnancy dating
“How far along am I?” is the most common pregnancy question — and the answer depends on how pregnancy weeks are counted. Pregnancy is dated from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), not from conception or from a positive test. This convention exists because the LMP date is usually known, while the exact conception date often isn't.
That means by the time you get a positive pregnancy test (around 4-5 weeks), you're already considered 4-5 weeks pregnant— even though the embryo is only ~2-3 weeks old. The first two “weeks” of pregnancy happen before you even ovulate.
Doctors and apps express pregnancy progress as weeks + days(e.g. “12w3d” = 12 completed weeks plus 3 days into the 13th week) because in early pregnancy, even a few days matter for screening windows and milestone timing.
If you don't know your LMP, you can work backwards from your due date instead — and an early dating ultrasound (weeks 7-13) is the most accurate way to confirm your week, since the embryo's crown-rump length grows at a very consistent rate. Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate how far along I am in pregnancy?▾
Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP), not from conception. To calculate how far along you are, count the number of full weeks (and extra days) from your LMP to today. Most full-term pregnancies last 40 weeks (280 days) from LMP.
Why is pregnancy counted from LMP and not from conception?▾
By the time most women confirm pregnancy, the exact day of conception is unknown but the date of the last period is usually known. Counting from LMP gives a consistent reference point that doctors and calculators can use reliably. This means you are technically considered 'two weeks pregnant' before conception actually occurs.
What does it mean to be '12 weeks 3 days' pregnant?▾
This shorthand (sometimes written 12w3d) means you have completed 12 full weeks of pregnancy and are 3 days into your 13th week. Doctors and apps use this format because pregnancy progress matters down to the day, especially in the first trimester.
How many weeks are in each trimester?▾
First trimester: weeks 1–12. Second trimester: weeks 13–26. Third trimester: weeks 27 until delivery (typically 40 weeks). This calculator shows your current trimester automatically based on your week.
What week is full-term?▾
37 weeks is considered early-term. 39–40 weeks is full-term. 41 weeks is late-term. 42+ weeks is post-term. Most healthy pregnancies deliver between 37 and 42 weeks — only ~5% of babies are born exactly on the estimated due date.
Can I use this calculator if I had an IVF pregnancy?▾
Yes — but for the most accurate IVF dating, use our dedicated IVF Due Date Calculator which handles Day 3, Day 5, Day 6 transfers and FET cycles. This week calculator works well for natural pregnancies and IVF pregnancies once you have a confirmed due date.
How many weeks pregnant am I if my last period was X weeks ago?▾
Pregnancy weeks are counted directly from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). So if your LMP was 10 weeks ago, you are 10 weeks pregnant — even though conception happened around week 2. Enter your LMP date above and the calculator shows the exact week and day, plus your trimester and due date.
How do I convert pregnancy weeks to months?▾
Pregnancy is 40 weeks, which is about 9 months — but the weeks don't divide evenly into calendar months (each pregnancy 'month' is roughly 4.3 weeks). Roughly: month 1 = weeks 1-4, month 2 = weeks 5-8, month 3 = weeks 9-13, month 4 = weeks 14-17, month 5 = weeks 18-22, month 6 = weeks 23-27, month 7 = weeks 28-31, month 8 = weeks 32-35, month 9 = weeks 36-40.
